While it's nice to finally see gay characters on TV, I worry about the message that they are sending to gay youth. As someone who grew up in a small redneck town in AZ, I've still never seen a gay character that I can even remotely relate to. I'm afraid that the message the gay characters are sending is one of aesthetic perfection, designer jeans, and designer purses. I'm not model perfect, and don't fit any stereotype that I've found so far. Kinda shy, don't consider myself to be photogenic...but am REAL, and out, and happy.
